LOCAL NETWORKS
NAKS works through a network of existing Afro Surinamese and non Afro Surinamese organizations, governmental institutes, and the Anton de Kom University through structural but also ad hoc collaboration. One of the broadly known initiatives is the NAKS Kawina-Kaskawi Festival for traditional Afro Surinamese percussion music. Also well-know is the Ala Kondre Dron, a percussion cooperation orchestra that performs combining all rhythms and dances of the ethnic groups in Suriname, launched by late Henk Tjon and then continued by Wilgo Baarn. The Ala Kondre Dron sure is a masterpiece and an example of cultural and ethnic integration.
International Networking
NAKS enjoys collaborative relationships with several organizations and experts in the Netherlands, Curaçao, others parts of the Caribbean and the United States of America. NAKS is also member of the Caribbean network CARIBNET.
Donor organizations
Donors that contribute or have contributed to the work of NAKS are: Skanfonds Nederland, the Dutch Embassy in Paramaribo, Stichting Wanatti Nederland, several Surinamese companies, DBSH (German help) and the program for micro-projects of the European Union. The Directorate of Culture of the Ministry of Education provides regular financial support and some action oriented programs, while several ministries and governmental institutes support NAKS’s activities.
NAKS uses gratefully the ‘NAKS CLUB 100 Actie’: a significant fund raising through which the organization receives a monthly financial support of individuals.
